In this sketch, The Oldest Man is working at a shoe store. He’s been called from the back stockroom to watch the store while the regular salesman is out to lunch.

As soon as The Oldest Man is alone, Stella enters. It’s Carol Burnett dressed as a very old woman. She holds her mouth in a funny way and toddles around the store.

The Oldest Man seems to have met his match as he watches Stella saunter and shuffle to her seat. She’s told him she’s there to buy slippers. She wants two of them, and they have to be blue.

The Oldest Man attempts to measure Stella’s foot since she doesn’t know what size she wears. After much theatrics, he finally gets her orthopedic shoe off, only to take her tan pantyhose with it. When The Oldest Man looks down and sees the stocking, he cries, “I pulled her leg off!”

After she threatens to leave, The Oldest Man resolves to help Stella get her slippers. He asks Stella to help him with the ladder. As he climbs up to find her slippers, Stella seems just as attracted to The Oldest Man as he is to her.

After many attempts, The Oldest Man cannot find the slippers Stella wants. She won’t take another color because her bathrobe is also blue. Finally, he finds a pair and asks Stella to join him in the backroom for some sandwiches. It seems The Oldest Man has met his match.
